In any tropical climate, mosquitoes can run rampant. Notably, the weather in Mérida contributes to the mosquito population especially during the rainy season in September. Now, I have to confess. There are two things I hate most in this world: 1) mosquitoes AND 2) heat!
But, the magic of Mérida is so strong that I’ve learned ways to cope with both of these annoyances. When asking other Facebook groups, “What is the best mosquito repellent in Mérida?”, you’ll get a variety of answers. You may also need something for small children or babies, as mosquitoes do not discriminate.
I highly recommend keeping a few choices with you at all times. I do find that in the evenings the mosquitoes become worse around dusk. We also have no-seeums which are super pesky. Then during other times of the year, we have striped black and white mosquitoes that I refer to as small zebras. They are the worst.
But, don’t worry! You are not alone in defending your tender skin from bites – we are all in this together.
